CROs a good investment
Despite the economic climate Gareth Down, head of European Healthcare and William Blair International remains upbeat about the CRO market. Sharing his thoughts with delegates at the Partnerships in Clinical Trial (PCT) congress in November Dr Down commented how the value of publicly traded CROs has increased 327 per cent since 1995 far outstripping the 124 per cent increase seen in the S&P 500 index during the same period.

New Chairman appointed
Alan Pilgrim has taken over as Chairman of Synexus. He succeeds Professor Trevor Jones, CBE. Trevor, a well respected figure in the science and pharmaceutical industry will remain on the board with particular responsibility for the Synexus Scientific Advisory Board.

Synexus’ Pretoria clinical research centre has enrolled more patients than any other site across the world in a type 2 diabetes trial for Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

Still going strong
In order to stay abreast of market changes Synexus has expanded its therapeutic offering into areas such as CNS and ophthalmology and conditions such as asthma and COPD. These changes, combined with a strengthened Board, a UK restructure and a record amount of new signings sees Synexus draw 2011 to a close on a very successful footing.

Leading the way
Synexus has recently formed two therapeutic advisory boards in respiratory and cardiac medicine. Professor John Kastelein, who is Professor of Medicine at the Department of Vascular Medicine at the Academic Medical Center (AMC) of the University of Amsterdam, where he holds the Strategic Chair of Genetics of Cardiovascular Disease is chair of the cardiac board. Professor Clive Page, who is the Director of the Sackler Institute of Pulmonary Pharmacology and Joint Head of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science at King’s College London is chair of the respiratory board.
